It is a fascinating story -- rich veins of gold and silver create a monetary economy that resulted in the rise of Europe's middle and merchant classes, the companies that formed to mine and provide miners and new settlers with goods and services lead to corporate power, and a rich variety of foods the natives raised in the Americas were shipped around the globe by those corporations and adopted into national diets so thoroughly that we now think of zucchini, tomatoes, and green beans as Italian food instead of imports.

Weatherford also weaves in explanations of how mineral riches in the Americas ended mining on Africa's Gold Coast and indirectly led to slavery, how the Iroquois Confederacy contributed to the federal government system the United States adopted, and how science could have benefited sooner and faster by paying more attention to native medical practices.

There are a few places where Weatherford probably pushes the idea a bit too far; but overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Indian Givers" and would suggest reading it with "1491," an equally intriguing look at how old, wise, and diverse the New World was before the Old World arrived to plunder.

Wonderful!

I found this to be one of the most informative books I've ever read, and I've read most of the classics.

When you read this book you must understand that the old adage that history is written by the conquerors is very true as is painfully illustrated in this book.

I'm of mixed Caucasion and American Indian descent. Many of the questions that I've wondered about my whole life were answered in this book. Where did all of the Inca gold go to? Why isn't Spain a major world power? Why does it seem as though most foods are native to the Americas? These are questions that are "skirted" in popular history books, giving all of the stability of modern life to the credit of "civilized" Europeans. As for the quesiton of democracy, the United States is in no sense the same type of democracy as ancient Greece (which was really a republic). If you're open minded an logical this book will blow your mind.

If I had gone into a bookstore to buy some books, the genre would not have been on my list of books to buy. Normally, no I don't read sci-fi, until now. This is the first book in this series by this author (Jeremy Robinson) that I have had the pleasure to read. Kane Gilmour I have read before and really liked. Together, their fantastic. Through the whole book, I could not tell who wrote what and where they wrote it. It flowed together seamlessly throughout. As for the story itself? Wow, I'm just hoping it never really happens. Not being familiar with all the characters made reading it an adventure, but did'nt take long to figure out who was who. If you have read books by these guys before, then you know what to expect, if you have'nt, then give them a try out. Will I be reading any more of their books? You betcha! Started another one last night.

I've read all the Chess Team novels, in fact I read all four novels and all the novellas in about a month.

Yep, I was having that good a time, and when you consider the fact that I have five boys (Homeschool one of them), three dogs, a husband and a house to take care of that's saying something. I had a wild ride, and I enjoyed every second of it.

Jack Sigler, or King (his callsign) is the leader of the fearless Chess Team. But he's also father to Fiona (his adopted daughter, gotta read the other books!) and lover to Sarah. Author, Jeremy Robinson, has created an actual character out of Sigler, as opposed to just a fearless soldier, and I appreciate that. I'm looking forward to a bit more story on the other team members (Queen, Bishop, Rook and Knight), so I'm hoping Robinson hears my pleas!

The world is being threatened by mysterious portals that are opening up around the world. No one knows where they will strike next, or just how much damage they will inflict, but things go from bad to worse when we find out that the world only has a few more days to live...is that the right word?

I wont' give too much away, but it's a given you need to suspend your belief in reality. These books aren't based in reality. Oh, sure they have some very realistic dimensions, but I think Robinson sets out to take us on a very wild, and crazy ride, and he delivers. Monsters, portals, other dimensions...science fiction, yes, but I had a whole lot of fun reading about them.

The action can get confusing at times, but the gist of what's going on is never hard to follow.

If you enjoy Matthew Reilly, Boyd Morrison or James Rollins, Jeremy Robinson will be right up your alley.

*EDITED*-For some reason, I decided to email author, Jeremy Robinson. I just said how much I enjoyed his books, and how I got a kick out of the action. I also like that he is such a huge supporter of self publishing. NOT only did he take the time to write me back, but he thanked me for the reviews I've written and shared a little bit of advice. Another of my favorite authors, Jonathan Maberry, does this often. He takes the time to email his fans, he responds to questions on FB from them. In short, he doesnt' forget that it's the fans that help his career to a point, and I'm happy to say that Robinson seems to feel the same. Any author that can take a few moments to acknowledge a fan bumps up a few notches in my book.
