Experientially, Dr. Purcell has over 40 years of ministry in counseling: agency, clinical, pastoral, psychiatric hospital, school, substance abuse, private practice, and chaplaincy-providing spiritual care at the end of life for hospice patients.

Long overdue scripturally sound evidence of the eternal love of God

Spiritual terrorism is one of the most overlooked abuses, putting paralyzing fear into intelligent well meaning Christians believing their acceptance of eternal torment is obedience to the word of God.
Boyd Purcell exposes the damage of this heresy passed down through generations using scriptural facts to back up his findings.
"Spiritual Schizophrenia" one of the chapters speaks of the impossibility of worshipping a God you cannot trust. You could not fathom doing to your loved ones what you've understood God will do to those who haven't had the fortune to know Him or chose not to believe.
Boyd does not present questions without answers. This is not a book with only a hope and a wish that God were only half as loving as us. He gives us sound evidence from scripture and with the wisdom and mind of Christ I hope this book serves as a means to bring peace to the many in despair for their unbelieving loved ones and those they've lost.

Spiritual Terrorism: Spiritual Abuse from the Womb to the Tomb by Boyd C. Purcell is the best book I've read on spiritual terrorism and abuse issues. It covers all areas: spiritual abuse characterized by frightening teachings and doctrines, fear-based religion, and the misunderstanding of symbolism (especially metaphorical fire.) The author discusses why things go wrong in the churches today; how we can recognize an abusive system, how we can recover, and return to a satisfying relationship with our spiritual practice: one comprised of faith, hope, love, and grace.
Boyd C. Purcell confronts in an open, honest, clear, and straightforward manner the issues that too many in the religious community refuse to admit. These serious issues are not meticulous and tidy -- they are somewhat confusing and embarrassing; and it takes time and enormous effort to make healthy changes.
Spiritual abuse touches many areas of our lives: marriage, divorce; struggles on the emotional, physical, and mental plane; also medical concerns and treatment. It takes tremendous courage for anyone to confront and uncover the truth of what goes on.
